Susan Deacon Appointed Chairman Of ScottishPower Renewables

ScottishPower Renewables is pleased to announce the appointment of Susan Deacon as Chairman of the company with immediate effect.

ScottishPower Renewables is the largest developer and generator of on-shore wind in the UK and is part of Iberdrola Renovables the world’s biggest wind energy company.

Susan Deacon joined the Board of Scottish Power Renewables Ltd as a Non-Executive Director in 2009. She is also a Trustee of the Iberdrola Foundation. A former Member of the Scottish Parliament and Scottish Government Minister, Susan Deacon brings to the role extensive experience of strategic policy and organisational development in both public sector and commercial environments.

Commenting on Susan Deacon’s appointment, Iberdrola Chairman Ignacio Galán, said: “Susan Deacon brings a wealth of insight and experience to this role and has made a valuable contribution to our work in Scotland and the UK. Susan Deacon

Susan Deacon was appointed as a Trustee of the Iberdrola Foundation and as a Non-Executive Director of Scottish Power Renewables Ltd in 2009. She was a Member of the Scottish Parliament from 1999 to 2007 and served in the Scottish Cabinet as Minister for Health and Community Care from 1999-2001. She holds a number of non-executive and advisory roles across the private, public and charitable sectors and has worked with a wide range of organisations in supporting strategic change and leadership development.

A regular contributor to thinking and debate on contemporary public and social policy issues, she will shortly complete a three year period as Professor of Social Change at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh and has recently been appointed as Honorary Professor in the School of Social and Political Science at the University of Edinburgh, which will include leading work on behalf of the Scottish Government on children’s early years’ development.

Educated at Edinburgh University, her early career included senior roles in local government, management consultancy and business education.

ScottishPower Renewables is part of Iberdrola Renovables, the largest wind energy company in the world with an installed capacity of close to 11,000 MW at the end of 2009, and a pipeline of over 57,400 MW. ScottishPower Renewables had over 800 MW of installed capacity at the end of 2009, and a pipeline of 5,115 MW.

Iberdrola Renovables has a presence in 23 countries around the world.

The company is already the largest developer and generator of on-shore wind energy in the UK, with Europe’s largest wind farm at Whitelee which was completed in May 2009.
ScottishPower Renewables Board of Directors

The Board of Scottish Power Renewables was created in 2009 as the principal governance and decision making body for ScottishPower Renewables operations in the UK.

Susan Deacon will take over as Chairman from Jose Angel Marra Rodriguez, Chief Financial Officer of Iberdrola Renovables, who will remain a member of the Board. The other Board members are Keith Anderson, Emilio Hernandes, Regina Reyes Gallur and Raphael Icaza de la Sota.
