RenewableUK Board Election

14/04/2022

Our ScottishPower Renewables Director of Policy and Regulation, Kate Turner, is standing for election to the RenewableUK Board. She explains below why she is seeking the support of RenewableUK members.

"Recent events have elevated the need to rapidly accelerate our transition to renewable energy and a net zero economy. As with my involvement in the RenewableUK Board to date, my focus will be to further the constructive, strategic engagement with UK Government and devolved administrations to ensure the right policy and regulatory frameworks are in place to deploy renewables (onshore and offshore) at pace to create a secure, clean, green energy system that delivers skills development and lasting career opportunities for the future.

"I believe it is essential that RenewableUK continues to represent members across the value chain, and that the organisation has a key role to play in supporting industry collaboration across the renewables value chain, developers, supply chain companies, communities and stakeholders. Going faster and harder on net zero is critical if we are to retain the UK’s competitive advantage in renewables, support long-term energy security and ensure the sustainable development of our supply chains.

"In my current role as Director of Policy and Regulation at ScottishPower Renewables, I am responsible for Government energy policy, grid regulation, aviation and planning/consenting affecting renewables onshore and offshore in the UK and Ireland. I am board member of Scottish Renewables and hold key roles with the Wind Energy Ireland Council, RenewableNI Committee and the Scottish Government’s Renewable Energy Strategic Leadership Group.

"At ScottishPower Renewables, we generate 100% renewable electricity from over 40 operational windfarms with over 2.8GW installed capacity throughout the UK and have ambitious growth plans. Last year, working closely with local communities, we accelerated our renewables pipeline – securing planning consents for 1GW of onshore wind and the opportunity to develop a further 7GW of offshore wind power through the ScotWind process alongside our East Anglia Hub. We are playing a leading role in the transition to net zero which is reflected in our ongoing investment programme in renewable technologies including onshore and offshore wind, large scale solar PV and innovative grid storage systems including batteries."

"I hope you will consider voting for me in this RenewableUK Board election."
