Full speed ahead as ScottishPower Renewables signs East Anglia CfD contracts

15/11/2024

ScottishPower Renewables has officially signed contracts with the Low Carbon Contracts Company (LCCC), paving the way for the delivery of more than 1,000MW of new clean, green generating capacity.

ScottishPower Renewables and Low Carbon Contracts Company (LCCC) sign contract for more than 1,000MW of new clean, green gene
ScottishPower was awarded two Contracts for Difference (CfD) as part of Allocation Round 6 (AR6), including for our East Anglia TWO offshore windfarm that will see 963MW of clean energy come online in 2028/29.

The contracts will secure enough electricity enough to power the equivalent of more than one million homes, and in turn support the signing of billions of pounds worth of investment and supply chain awards.

They are part of 130 Allocation Round 6 (AR6) contracts signed with LCCC in recent weeks, setting a new milestone with the highest number of contracts ever signed in a single round.

Once operational, AR6 will see 9.58GW of renewable generation come online bringing the total CfD capacity to 34.74 GW.

Ross Ovens, ScottishPower’s Managing Director for Offshore Development and Operations, said: “It’s fantastic to reach this milestone for so much renewable generation, and especially pleasing to see offshore wind leading the charge towards a cleaner and greener future. We’ve been moving at pace since our success in the auction to confirm the supply chain for our £4 billion East Anglia TWO windfarm, which will produce enough renewable electricity to power the equivalent of almost one million homes. We look forward to bringing this project to life and reaping all the benefits that offshore wind can, and will, deliver.”

Energy Minister Michael Shanks said: “We acted decisively to increase the budget for Allocation Round 6, delivering the most successful renewables auction to date.

“Securing more clean energy projects is how we protect billpayers from volatile fossil fuel markets, strengthen energy security and deliver our mission to make Britian a clean energy superpower by 2030.

“The signing of these contracts marks another key milestone on our journey, and we look forward to continue working with industry to speed up the rollout of clean, cheap and secure power across the country.”

Neil McDermott, CEO of LCCC said: “With the contracts for Allocation Round 6 (AR6) now signed, we are proud to announce a significant expansion in our renewable energy portfolio. This groundbreaking round increases our capacity by 9.58 GW to a total of 34.74GW and features a broad range of technologies from well-established wind and solar to nascent technologies like tidal and floating wind.

“The success of AR6 not only advances our commitment to decarbonisation but also accelerates our journey towards a Net Zero future. We are eager to partner with our new and existing generators to ensure timely delivery.”
