Permission Granted for Carland Cross Windfarm Repowering

20/01/2010

Following a successful planning appeal, ScottishPower Renewables is pleased to announce that approval has been granted for the upgrading and repowering of Carland Cross Windfarm.

Located near Truro, Cornwall, the existing Carland Cross Windfarm was built in 1992 and currently has 15 turbines capable of generating 6MW of clean green energy. The new windfarm will consist of 10 turbines and have a capacity of 20MW, enough to power over 11,000 homes.

The initial application to repower the windfarm was rejected by local councillors in March 2008, despite the backing of all statutory consultees and council planning officials.

Following a public inquiry, the Planning Inspectorate supported the original planning recommendation and granted full consent.

Keith Anderson, Managing Director, ScottishPower Renewables said: “SPR is delighted with the announcement and the findings of the Planning Inspectorate.

“We now look forward to progressing construction of the project and continuing the area’s long standing association with renewable energy.”
