Permission Granted for Lynemouth Windfarm

Following a successful planning appeal ScottishPower Renewables is pleased to announce that approval has been granted for Lynemouth Windfarm.

Located approx 2km north of Ashington, Northumberland, adjacent to the Rio Tinto Alcan Lynemouth Smelter, the windfarm will comprise of up to 13 turbines with the capacity to produce 30MW of clean green energy, enough to power over 16,000 homes.

Split over two council areas, the planning applications were submitted in November 2006 with Wansbeck Council minded to approve the project with Castle Morpeth rejecting the submission. The planning appeal was then heard in April 2008.

Keith Anderson, Director, ScottishPower Renewables said: “SPR is delighted with today’s announcement and the findings of the planning appeal process.

“We now look forward to progressing construction of the project and adding green energy generation to the area’s long standing industrial heritage.”
