ScottishPower Renewables has launched a photography competition in association with GE digital cameras and The Herald, searching for the best pictures of Whitelee Windfarm in East Renfrewshire, Europe’s largest onshore windfarm.
There are three fantastic GE cameras up for grabs for the overall winner and two runners up, as well as family passes to the Glasgow Science Centre and goody bags. The three winning images will also be displayed in Whitelee Windfarm Visitor Centre.
“Whitelee’s turbines coupled with the landscape make for some striking photography opportunities, and many visitors have already been sharing their shots through blogs and social media such as Twitpic and Flickr,” said a spokesperson for ScottishPower Renewables.
“We are delighted that people are going online to share and view photos of Whitelee – we want to encourage this and to recognise talented individuals through this competition.”
The competition will be hosted online, through ScottishPower Renewables’ newly established Twitter feed. Don’t worry if you don’t use Twitter, entries can also be submitted by email and ScottishPower Renewables will provide all entrants with a link so they can view their photo and share it with friends and family.
If you already have photos of Whitelee Windfarm, you can email them to whiteleephotos@scottishpower.com for your chance to win. Terms and conditions apply. If you are planning a visit to Whitelee, remember to take your camera and send in your photos. Please include a brief description telling us more about you and your visit to Whitelee. Closing date for entries is midnight on Wednesday, October 27.

The winner will receive a GE X5. The GE X5 camera is a great buy for anyone who doesn’t want the complexity of a full SLR camera but wants something more interesting than a compact. With its long lens technology, this is by far the cheapest of its kind on the market, not to mention the best looking! Practical and easy to use, the X5 also boasts the in-built award winning Pan Capture Panorama. It takes great photos but also helps you look like a pro photographer.
