Lockerbie Ice Rink opened in 1967 and hosts curling through the week and ice skating at weekends.
Their curling team members have gone on to National and Olympic success and they offer subsidised sessions for local young people. In 2021, they received a grant of over £20,000 from Dumfriesshire East Community Benefit Group (DECBG) who manage the regional community benefit fund from ScottishPower Renewables’ Ewe Hill Windfarm.
This funding enabled them to make accessibility improvements to the reception and changing areas at the ice rink which has been great for wheelchair users including ‘The Wheelies’ a team of wheelchair curlers who use the rink regularly.
A spokesperson for Lockerbie Ice Rink said: “The ice rink is very grateful for the funding received from Dumfriesshire East Community Benefit Group, Scottish Power Renewables and also the support received from local contractors who carried out the work through the difficult times of the Covid pandemic to ensure that the facility opened on time."
